Overview
Park Arsat Moulay Abdesalam is a public garden in Marrakech's Hivernage district, one of the green spaces that the city has maintained as urban lung in a neighborhood otherwise defined by hotel towers and government buildings. The park covers a significant area and is planted with mature trees, including palms and olive varieties that have had time to grow to substantial size, providing shade that transforms the space in the middle of the day. The park functions primarily as a place of rest and passage for the surrounding neighbourhood, used by families in the evening, by school groups in the morning, and by individuals seeking the particular quality of silence that comes from being within a planted enclosure in a city of this noise level. A small pool or ornamental basin occupies part of the space, and benches placed at intervals along the paths make it possible to spend time here without any particular purpose. Arsat Moulay Abdesalam is not a destination in the way that Majorelle or the Ménara are destinations, but it offers something those more visited gardens cannot: the atmosphere of a genuinely local space, used by Marrakchi residents in the ordinary course of daily life, without a ticket booth or an entrance queue. The park is maintained by the city and functions as a public resource in a neighborhood that has seen significant private development over recent decades. Go in the cooler hours, before the midday heat, when the birds are more audible than the traffic.
