Overview
Le MAP, the Monde des Arts de la Parure, is a museum dedicated to the art of adornment: jewelry, accessories, textiles, and the craft traditions through which Moroccan and African cultures have shaped and displayed identity across centuries. Located in the Medina, it occupies a traditional riad building whose intimate spatial sequence provides a natural framework for a collection that is itself organized around relationships between form, material, and meaning. The displays range across regions and periods, from the heavy silver and amber jewelry of the Moroccan south to finely worked metal pieces from sub-Saharan goldsmith traditions. Textiles are presented alongside the jewelry with which they were historically worn, a curatorial choice that restores the context that individual-object display tends to strip away. The museum also addresses the craft process itself, explaining the techniques of filigree, granulation, and enameling through examples at different stages of completion. The collection is specific enough to reward visitors with an existing interest in material culture, and accessible enough to hold those encountering these traditions for the first time. The riad building, with its carved plaster interior and filtered light, amplifies the character of what is displayed within it.
