Overview

Restaurant MB occupies a quiet stretch of Rue Khalid Ben El Oualid in Gueliz, and behind a name that stands for "Mon Bistronomique" is a thoroughly personal kitchen. The restaurant underwent a complete transformation under chef-owner Christophe Pionnier, a native of southern France raised between the Cévennes and Provence, who brought with him a devotion to homemade craft and a repertoire rooted in the sunlit flavours of the Mediterranean. The décor reflects the same sensibility: clean lines, green plants threading through the room, navy walls offset by bright touches, and an overall warmth that visitors describe as cocooning rather than showy. The carte reads like a love letter to classical French technique with confident Mediterranean accents. A truffled foie gras mi-cuit arrives with homemade muffin bread and a fig-and-apricot chutney; gravlax salmon comes marinated "à ma façon" alongside a smoked salmon macaron. Among the mains, the filet de boeuf aux morilles and a blanquette de la mer folding fish, gambas, and shellfish into coconut milk are the dishes the kitchen stakes its name on. The grilled octopus, finished with a Provençal butter and citrus-ginger jus, is the plate reviewers mention most. Desserts lean Ardéchois and classical: a chestnut-cream dacquoise, baba au rhum, tarte tatin. The lunch formula draws a loyal midday crowd, and the monthly discovery menu at dinner gives the chef room to build a theme. A wine list strong on Moroccan labels, a cocktail carte, and occasional live music or DJ evenings round out a restaurant that has quietly built a loyal following. Most guests settle at the outdoor tables, and a valet service removes the usual Gueliz parking headache. Reservations are wise, particularly at dinner and for special events.
