Intimate & Quiet

Overview

Beldi Country Club occupies fourteen hectares on the Route du Barrage, ten minutes from the Medina but deep enough into the countryside to feel governed by a different clock. The grounds are the main event: centenarian olive groves, water lily ponds, a cactus garden, bamboo-lined paths, greenhouses, and somewhere around twelve thousand rose bushes that scent the air well before you reach the pools. Everything is built from pisé, the rammed-earth construction traditional to the region, giving the low buildings a texture that seems to grow from the soil itself. The pools at Beldi sit within this landscape rather than above it. Lined by terraces and framed by bougainvillea and arched courtyards, they have the feel of something carved out of a garden rather than imposed on one. Several are heated through winter; others are reserved for children. The pace is slow by design. Lunch happens under the trees or poolside, leaning Moroccan or Mediterranean depending on which of the restaurants you choose. Afterward, there is the on-site souk to wander: pottery workshops, hand-blown glass, Berber carpets, embroidered linen, all produced by artisans working on the property. A spa, clay tennis courts, and padel round out the offer. What makes the Beldi singular is its refusal to polish away the rough edges. The narrow alleyways between buildings recall a village, not a resort. The gardens are lush but unmanicured. The Atlas Mountains hold the horizon. It is a place where the afternoon stretches without interruption, and the smell of roses follows you to the water's edge.
