Overview
El Fenn occupies a sprawling riad in the Medina with the confidence of a property that has spent years evolving rather than staying fixed. Forty-one individually designed rooms compose the building's interior: some have hand-stitched camel leather floors, others feature hand-mixed lime plaster walls, and the colour vocabulary moves between hot pink and deep teal without apology or consistency, each room its own statement. The architecture is traditional Moroccan, carved plasterwork and cedar ceilings meeting mid-century European furniture in combinations that should produce confusion and instead produce energy. Three swimming pools are distributed through the building at different levels. The roof terrace, a thousand three hundred square metres of outdoor space, serves as a gathering point from noon to late evening, its views over the Medina offering both panorama and the low particular roar of the city spread out below. Two restaurants and two cocktail bars give the property a social life that extends beyond guests. The spa and hammam provide a quieter counterpoint. El Fenn runs at a frequency that is distinctly its own: unself-conscious luxury that has no interest in reassuring anyone, a riad that trusts its guests to find their way around it The rooftop is probably where El Fenn is best understood: forty-one rooms, three pools, and all of the Medina spread below at the hour when the light goes sideways and the city starts to make its evening sounds.
