Overview
Al Maaden Golf opened in 2010 on 72 hectares of gently rolling terrain at the southern edge of Marrakech, with the snow-covered peaks of the Atlas Mountains rising along the full length of the horizon. The championship layout is a par 73 stretching over 6,500 metres, and its design sets in dialogue two distinct traditions: the Scottish links aesthetic and the formal geometry of Moroccan gardens. Rectangular water basins, placed in direct reference to the Menara Gardens, interrupt the course at key moments, their still surfaces mirroring sky and mountain with a formal, almost architectural clarity. Twelve large sculptures, commissioned specifically for the site, stand across the fairways and surrounding parkland. They work not as decoration but as spatial markers, giving each round a rhythm rarely found elsewhere. Wide fairways open up the game, yet the strategic challenge is real: 104 bunkers, multi-tiered greens that punish imprecision, and water in play on several holes demand sustained attention. Palms, cypresses, and almond trees border the playing corridors, the vegetation shifting between formal and wild as the terrain rolls through its changes. The clubhouse sits at the course's edge, its terrace positioned above a sunken seating area almost within the water feature that encircles the 18th green. From that vantage point, the Atlas fills the background with a presence that has nothing to do with decoration. A full practice complex, including a 300-metre driving range, putting green, and approach area, completes a facility as suited to serious preparation as to play.
