Overview
Deep in the Medina, Al Misbah occupies a restored monument whose stones go back to the years after the fall of the Almoravids, a building only rediscovered in 2019 and reworked into a restaurant that wears its history openly. You step off the lane into a courtyard riad of ancient stone and soft light, antiques and period pieces set about the rooms, the noise of the streets replaced by something hushed and old. The setting is the first course: a place where, as the house puts it, the walls speak. The kitchen is Moroccan at heart, opened up with international touches, plated as gastronomy rather than home cooking, each dish given a story to tell. A mixology list works ancestral Moroccan infusions into contemporary drinks, and there is a wine shop on site, so dinner can be built around a proper pairing. Lunch is the quieter face of the place; by night, candlelight and stone make it frankly romantic. It suits a long dinner when you want the room to be part of the meal, a special occasion in the old city away from the rooftop crowds. Service leans formal, the pace unhurried, the whole thing pitched as an evening rather than a quick table.
