Overview

Inside La Mamounia, past the corridors of carved plasterwork and hand-laid zellige, Le Bar Majorelle holds court as the hotel's principal gathering place after dark. The room takes its name from the French Orientalist painter who left one of Marrakech's most beloved gardens as his legacy, and the bar carries something of that spirit: intricate tilework, lush greenery at every turn, soft lighting that makes the space feel intimate regardless of how full it is. Before the evening settles indoors, guests move through the hotel's legendary garden, where the outdoor terrace extends the bar into open air at ground level, lantern-lit and unhurried, the Atlas-facing sky above and the scent of orange blossom nearby. It is not a rooftop in the conventional sense, but a garden terrace, which is something quieter and more considered. The cocktail programme is the main event. Mixologists work through a selection built around Moroccan artisanal products, and the drinks are conceived to accompany conversation rather than interrupt it. Small plates round out the experience, conceived by Pierre Hermé in a refined Parisian bistro register, designed to extend the evening rather than anchor it. A resident orchestra takes over as the night progresses, setting a jazz register that keeps the atmosphere animated without tipping into excess. Le Bar Majorelle comes alive from early evening onward, when guests arrive for aperitifs and the tables begin to fill. The room runs until well past midnight. The architecture carries weight, the light is considered, and the cocktails arrive in glassware that matches the setting. In a hotel of this scale and historical significance, it manages to feel like a destination in its own right.
